YST Conservatory in New Light
Celebrating 10 years of the opening of the Conservatory building in October 2006, as part of the Performers’ Present Festival & Symposium, YST Conservatory presents a 2-day open house which provides an opportunity to see the Conservatory in new light.
Pathways to YST: Open House for NUS Students
Friday 28 October
Aimed to engage with current and prospective NUS students, Friday’s activities have been shaped to introduce emerging opportunities for students to continue their passion for music while studying in NUS.
From 2017, NUS students will be eligible for an even wider range of modules at YST. They can now study topics related to music & human cultures and philosophies of art & music under the General Education and Singapore Studies modules in addition to topics from the Analysis & Composition and Music History & Context areas.

Plus over 20 international presentations and performances by YST students, faculty & alumni and international artists such as Melvyn Tan, piano, Paul Cesarczyk, guitar & Joachim Lim, percussion and 4Cellists, as well as Singaporean chamber music ensemble Wu Xian.

Illuminating the Score: The Past rePresented
This discussion utilizes Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony as a departure point. 3 conductors – Gábor Takács-Nagy, Wong Kah Chun and Darrell Ang, share what they imagine when they see the composer’s score, what markings they themselves are inspired to make in order to trigger creative responses in live performance.

An open rehearsal of the Pastoral Symphony with Gábor Takács-Nagy, music director of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra and one of the world’s most respected musician and teacher.

Legendary pianist Sir András Schiff gives a masterclass ahead of his solo recital (30 Oct) and concerto performance (1 Nov) with the Conservatory Orchestra in Singapore.

The Electone Orchestra: Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor
Debut performance of the conservatory’s new Yamaha Stagea Electones, which will be used to accompanying pianist Thomas Hecht in a colorful, state of the art electronic orchestral setting.

Lorong Boys, YST Conservatory’s very own alumni, returns to whizz us through the greatest hits of the last 400 years: from Bach to Xenakis; from the regal dances of the Baroque to yesterday’s club hits; from the chill grooves of jazz to no-holds-barred free improvisation. Hang on tight as the Boys present all this and more, in the way they know and love; the Lorong Way.
Performer’s Present Symposium
