We seek to invite performer-scholars, music researchers, cognitive scientists, psychologists, and all who fit this bill, to present proposals for lecture-recitals (40 mins), paper presentations (20 mins), and discussion panels which link the above philosophical exploration more specifically with the festival’s performance programme.
The potential areas of exploration include (but not limited to):

What is the nature of presence in the act of performing?
How do we prepare to be present?
How do performance traditions inform present performances of timeless pieces of music?
What are the present challenges and opportunities in ’gifting’ classical music today?
What are ways that modern cognitive neuroscience elucidates truly present performances?

Proposals of 250-300 words should be sent as a Word attachment to present@nus.edu.sg and must include the following: Title, Author(s)/Performer(s), affiliation(s), email address for contact. The deadline for proposals is Friday 2 September 2016. Decisions on proposals will be communicated by Monday 16 September 2016. Selected proposals from international participants will be awarded a SG$750 grant as a contribution to costs incurred in attending.
